OVERVIEW
The Serengeti is from the Maasai phrase “siringet” which translates to “endless plains. It comprises vast savannah plains of about 5,700 square miles (14,763 sq km). The annual migration of massive herds of wildebeest, gazelles, and zebras, to reach permanent water holes, are followed by their predators. It is one of the most impressive natural events in the world.
HIGLIGHTS
- The main attraction in the Serengeti is the wildlife. It is the best place to see the Big 5, giraffes, smaller mammals, and many bird species.
- Retina Hippo Pool is a large watering hole where the Seronera and Orangi rivers converge in the Central Serengeti. It is a great spot to observe frolicking hippos and lumbering Nile crocodiles sunny on the rocks.
- Hot air balloon rides
- Experience the origin of the human species by observing fossils and paleoanthropological findings at Olduvai Gorge.
